Ar Tonelico takes place in the world of Sol Ciel. The world has been wracked by tremendous and violent catastrophes, causing most of it's land mass to vanish. The great tower 'Ar Tonelico' was built to save the people of the world, and they live within it on and masses of land that grow out of it. People from the lower landmasses view the higher landmasses as 'holy' places. The players must set out to try and find out why 'viruses' have suddenly started to pop up at an alarming rate inside Ar Tonelico, and stop them.
