Castlevania: lament of Innocence is chronologically the first Castlevania game, because it is set in the year 1094, You play as Leon Belmont, a former noble. Your goal is to rescue your kidnapped wife-to-be from a vampire named Walter Bernhard. Throughout the game, Leon runs into many characters and makes friends with them, like Rinaldo Gandolfi, an alchemist who supplies you with items.During the course of the game you run into a character named Matthias, who turns out to be Dracula.

The game has two other playable characters: Joachim, who uses magical flying swords, and Pumpkin, who uses pumpkins and a whip.

The game recieved a 78% rating on Gamerankings.com, and was released on November 27th, 2003 in Japan, October 21st, 2003 in the United States, and February 11th, 2004 in Europe.
