Dragon Quest VII, called Dragon Warrior VII in North America, is a console RPG for the Playstation published by Enix. The game is the seventh installment of the critically acclaimed and enormously popular 'Dragon Quest' series. The game is the first of the series to be released outside of Asia since the release of Dragon Warrior IV in North America in 1992. Dragon Quest VII is most widely known for its incredible amount of playability, as completing the game without a single side-quest can easily take over 100 hours. Like all other Dragon Quest games, Dragon Quest VII has the same first person view styled turn based combat. The plot tells the tale of a young boy who discovers a map that reveals to him that the world is much larger than his small island. Like other Dragon Quest games, the protagonist must be named by the player and has no default name. Dragon Quest VII was released in Japan on August 26, 2000 and in North America on November 1, 2001. The game very well received, as it sold over 4 million copies worldwide and quickly became one of the best selling Playstation games ever. It received a score of 80.54% from Gamerankings.
