Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, called Fainaru Fantaji Kurisutaru Kuronikuru in Japan, is an action RPG developed and published by Square Enix. The game is a spinoff of the Final Fantasy series that includes many new gameplay elements like real-time combat and Gamecube / Game Boy Advance compatibility. The game is set in an unnamed fantasy world during the time of 'Crystal Chronicles' where the world is covered in a noxious gas called 'miasma' and players have to get around by carrying a crystal with them that shields against the effects of the gas. The game's music score was composed by Kumi Tanioka and featured the use of many medieval and Renaissance musical instruments. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was released in Japan on August 8th, 2003, in North America on February 9th, 2004 and in Europe on March 12, 2004. The game was fairly well received, as it earned a score of 80% from Gamerankings.
