Final Fantasy VIII, called Fainaru Fantaji Eito in Japan, is the eight installment of the critically acclaimed 'Final Fantasy' RPG franchise. Like most other Final Fantasy titles, the game both developed and published by Square and was originally released for the Playstation console. The game's story is largely about a group of young mercenaries who are drawn into the midst of an international conflict. The game's protagonist in a 17 year old 'loner' and military academy student who, along with his friends, try to protect the world by stopping a sorceress who is manipulating the war for her own agenda. The game was released in Japan on February 11, 1999, in North America on September 9th, 1999 and in Europe on October 27th 1999. A PC version of Final Fantasy VIII was later released for Windows in the year 2000. Like other Final Fantasy games, veteran RPG music composer Nobuo Uematsu wrote and directed the Final Fantasy VIII original sound track. The two best known tracks on the sound track are 'Liberi Fatali', which was a latin choral piece that played in the opening cutscene and 'Eyes on Me', a Japanese pop song that served as the game's theme. Final Fantasy VIII was ultimately well received, and considered by a few gamers as the 'best final fantasy game', but the game earned a score 89.8% on GameRankings.
