Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin takes a dive into the Castlevania franchise's roots. It's a side-scrolling, action adventure platformer in which you take control of two characters: Johnathan and Charlotte. You can switch between the two of them whenever you want in game, and you'll have to use both of their abilities if you wish to travel through Dracula's castle and defeat him. The game takes place inside Dracula's Castle, and 'Paintings' that teleport the player to various areas, such as Egypt and London. The game is set during World War 2. The war has lead to Dracula's ressurection, since the world has been plunged into turmoil and people have forgotten about the vampire lord. This has allowed his followers to ressurect him.

The game recieved a 80.5% rating on Gamerankings.com, and was released on November 16th, 2006 in Japan, December 5th, 2006 in the United States, and March 9th, 2007 in Europe.
