Xenogears is a console RPG developed and published by Square for the Playstation. The game is centered around the protagonist Fei Fong Wong as he struggles to survive in a world that was torn apart by two of the game's large nations, Aveh and Kislev. Like the other games in the 'Xeno' franchise, Xenogears has principles and philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche intergrated with the game's overall story. Philosophies of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung and Jacques Lacan as well as religious themes play an important part in the game's plot development. The games central theme is about the nature of human memory, as from the start of the game, the protgaonist, Fei, suffers from memory loss which leaves him clueless about parts of his past. Each of the games handful of characters also has their own giant robot, or 'gear' to use in battle. Xenogears was released in Japan on February 11, 1998 and in North America on October 21, 1998. The game was ultimately very well received as it received an average game review score of 90.99%. The success of Xenogears has led to the development of the three part sci-fi epic called 'Xenosaga'.
