Breath of Fire is the first game in the popular Breath of Fire series. It was developed by Capcom and published in North America by Squaresoft. Gameplay elements include an overworld and turn based random encounters. All members of the player's party follow in single file behind the leading character which can be changed at any time. Another interesting feature is the variation in color scheme depending on what time of day it is in the game world. The story centers around Ryu, a young man whose sister is taken prisoner during a raid on their village by the Dark Dragons, a rival clan. Besides Ryu, there are seven other playable characters in Breath of Fire with up to four usable in battle at a time. The game received decent reviews and hold a 80% average ranking as reported by Game Rankings. Breath of Fire was originally released in Japan on April 3, 1993 and in North America on October 10, 1005. More recently, the game was ported to the GBA in early 2001.
