Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is the third incarnation of the Castlevania franchise on the Gameboy Advance. It takes place in a more 'modern' time than the previous games, which is denoted by the clothing the characters wear. This game pulls away from the Belmont clan, introducing a new character named Soma Cruz. He has a special power called 'dominance' which allows him to absorb the souls of felled enemies, and use them to increase his own power. His goal, as it has been in many Castlevania games, is to defeat the ressurected Dracula.

The game introduced a majority of new characters and systems, and was recieved with favorable reviews. It got a 87.69% rating on Gamerankings.com. The game was released on May 6th, 2003 in the United States, May 8th, 2003 in japan, and May 9th, 2003 in Europe.
