Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was released in 2008 and is the Playstation 2 remake of the Gameboy Advance title Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. While the least successful in the series, Chain of Memories still had strong sales numbers and was a commercial success.

Chain of Memories is the sequel to the original Kingdom Hearts and ends a year before the events of Kingdom Hearts II. The story again centers on Sora and his search for his lost friends inside a mysterious castle. At the  same time, Sora's rival, Riku, explores the basement levels of the castle battling his inner demons. Chain of Memories has a card based battle system which is a significant depature from the classic action-RPG format used in other Kingdom Hearts games.
