Advance Wars is a 2D turn based strategy game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the GBA. The game supports up to 4 players with the goal of destroying all enemy armies or capturing their Headquarters (HQ.) Each player is represented by a CO, a commanding officer with special abilities that can be activated to boost an army's stats in some way. Tactics play a large role in Advance Wars as players must make use of terrain, and the individual strengths and weaknesses of their units. There are a total of 18 different types of military units, each with a set amount of attack power, vision range, movement ranged, and fuel supply. The game has an in-depth story line where the players assume the role of a tactical adviser for the Orange Star nation in its ongoing war with the neighboring Blue Moon. Eventually, it is revealed that the sinister Black Hole Army is the true enemy which has been manipulating the other countries to make war with one another. Advance Wars was released in the USA on September 10, 2001 but was delayed in Japan & Europe because of the events of the following day. The game has an average score of 92.13% on Game Rankings.
