The game takes place in 2012, when a man named Desmond Miles is kidnapped by a company and put into a machine dubbed 'Animus', which allows a person to relive the genetic memories of their ancestors. This allows him to 'live' through the memories of his forefathers, set in his DNA. Players take control of Altair, Desmond's ancestor, attempting to recover an artifact dubbed 'The Piece of Eden', and play through many action-adventure oriented missions with a hint of stealth as they attempt to recover it and find out the company's real plot.
