Dark Cloud is an action RPG with some city-building elements developed by Level-5 and released on the Playstation 2. It is the first game in the series, and it's success led to the development of a sequel, called Dark Cloud 2. Dark Cloud's gameplay consists of crawling through randomly generated dungeons, defeating enemies and collecting items. The game's protagonist is a young boy named Toan who wears a poncho and lives in Norune Village. Toan battles against the game's antagonist, the Dark Genie, in order to protect the world. The game's music score was composed by Tomohito Nishiura and it consists of 46 tracks. The original soundtrack has some great tunes and is well worth checking out. Dark Cloud was released in Japan on December 14, 2000, in North America on May 28, 2001 and in Europe on September 21, 2001. The game received generally positive reviews, with an average score of 78.22% according to Gamerankings.
