E.V.O.: Search for Eden is a unique side scroller developed by Almanic Corporation and published by Enix for the SNES. Gameplay involves a blend of platforming and character development achieved by spending EVO points earned by consuming other creatures. Players start as small fish in prehistoric times and must work their way through several forms including reptiles and mammals until finally achieving the human state. A mysterious story line is slowly revealed as players progress through the game. Aliens show a continued interest in Earth and the progress of life on it by introducing special crystals that speed up the evolutionary process. The quirky EVO received mix reviews that praised its original design but criticized its presentation and repetitive gameplay. The game has an average rating of 76% on Game Rankings. It was released on December 21, 1992 in Japan and in July of 1993 in North America.
