Final Fantasy VI (also known as Final Fantasy III when it was first released in North America) is a console RPG developed and published by Square originally for the SNES. The game is the sixth installment in the critically acclaimed 'Final Fantasy' RPG franchise. Final Fantasy 6 included more battle customization options than previous titles and has the largest playable cast in the core series to date. The plot in FF6 revolves around a group of rebels and their plan to overthrow an imperial dictatorship. Many gameplay elements were recycled from previous titles but what set Final Fantasy 6 apart was the unique steampunk environment. While all previous FF titles were set in a standard fantasy setting, the world of FFVI had coal mines and railroads. The game received high praise from most reviewers with an average rating of 93.7% on Game Rankings. The SNES version of FFVI was released in Japan on April 2, 1994 and on October 11, 1994 in North America. The Playstation version was released in 1999 and the GBA port saw release in 2007.
