Baten Kaitos Origins is a role playing game developed by tri-Crescendo and Monolith Soft and published by Namco for Nintendo's GameCube console. Baten Kaitos Origins is a prequel to the original Baten Kaitos and uses the same combat system which involves the use of special cards known as Magnus. Gameplay is a bit different in this sequel, all characters share a single 'deck' and battles move much faster. The game's story takes place 20 years prior to the events of the first game. The main protagonist this time around is Sagi who works for the Alfard Empire's elite unit. the Dark Service. Baten Kaitos Origins received mediocre reviews and has an average score of 76.5% according to Game Rankings. It was launched on February 23, 2006 in Japan and on September 25, 2006 in North America.
