Players take control of a character who is able to summon and control demons in this cult classic RPG. That's really all there is to it. There is a force out to destroy the world and the player character uses the demons he can summon and capture, and also combine, to fight it off. The game was originally released on march 18th, 1994 in Japan and has received enough positive press to lead to multiple Shin Megami Tensai games being made.
