Final Fantasy XI, called Finaru Fataji Irebun, is Square's first MMORPG that was utilized the popular RPG franchise. The game was both published and developed by Square and originally released on the Playstation 2 on May 16, 2002. The game was later released on the PC in November of the same year. Final Fantasy XI is set in the fictional fantasy world of Vana'diel where like most MMORPGs, players have to complete quests and defeat monsters in order to advance their character level. The game had an enormous amount of success, as it enjoyed four expansion packs that introduced a lot of new content to the game. As of April 2009 the game has around 500,000 subscribers. Square released an Xbox 360 version of the game worldwide in April 2006 in order to try and attract more console gamers to the MMORPG. Like many other Final Fantasy games, the game's music was composed by Nobuo Uematsu. The game was ultimately well received, as it earned a score of 83% from GameRankings.
