Metal Gear is the first game in the Metal Gear series, and the game that spawned the popular stealth-espionage genre in video games. Players take on the role of Solid Snake as they sneak around, attempting to avoid being detected by enemy soldiers. You get to use a multitude of weapons, ranging from simple pistols to guided rocket launchers, and Solid Snake's own fists.
The plot of the story is as follows: Solid Snake is a rookie member of the military unit FOXHOUND and has been sent out to a place called 'Outer Heaven', a heavily guarded base created by a legendary mercenary. Snake has been sent out to stop the mercenary, because he is threatening the world with a special made, bipedal tank called Metal Gear, capable of launching nuclear missiles. Snake has to fight through the guards of Outer Heaven, and then specialally trained agents that are sent to stop in, finally battling the legendary mercenary at the end of the game.
The game was released on December 22nd, 1987 in Japan, June 1988 in the United States, and in march 1989 in Europe. It recieved a rating of 7.8 on gamefaqs, and no rating on Gamerankings.com.
