Platforms: Playstation (PSX)
Final Fantasy Tactics, called Fainaru Fantaji Takutikusu in Japan, is a tactical RPG for the Playstation developed and published by Square. Final Fantasy Tactics for the Playstation was the first 'tactics' game for the franchise. The game combined the thematic elements of the 'Final Fantasy' series with a turn based grid 'tactics system' which resulted in a suprisingly good game. Like Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics is set in the fictional fantasy kingdom called Ivalice. The game's protagonist is a young cadet named Ramza Beoulve who finds himself in the midst of a conflict involving two factions fighting for the control of the kingdom. Final Fantasy Tactics was released in Japan on June 20th 1997 and in North America on January 28 1998. It was largely well received as it earned a score of 85% from Gamerankings and sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. The game's soundtrack was composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata, who also later composed the music for Final Fantasy XII.
