Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss Original Soundtrack OST
Platforms: PC
Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss is a first-person RPG for the PC. The game was published by Origin Systems, the company behind all of the games in the 'Ultima Series' and the incredibly popular MMORPG Ultima Online. The game is set in a large, subterranian area called the Great Stygian Abyss that contains the remnants of a failed utopian civilization. Ultima Underworld was considered to be a unique title as the game was the first RPG to utilize true 3D graphics. Like other 'dungeon simulation' games, Ultima Underworld has non linear gameplay and the game's success led to the development of a sequel, Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds. The game's enormous success also had a great deal of influence on the Elder Scroll's developer Bethesda Softworks and the creator of the Half Life games Valve Corporation. The game was very well received as it sold 500,000 copies worldwide and received consistently excellent scores from game critics and media outlets. Dragon Magazine actually gave the game a 6 out of 5. Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss was released in North America on March 27, 1992 and in Japan on May 29th, 2002.
