The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, called Zeruda No Densetsu (Pato) Tsu Rinku No Boken in Japan, is an action role playing game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the second game is the critically acclaimed 'The Legend of Zelda' series. The game was originally released in Japan on January 14, 1987, in North America on December 1988 and in Europe on November 26, 1988. Zelda II, unlike its predecessor as it is a largely side-scrolling game within a larger world map unlike the 'top down' view of the original Zelda game. Another interesting addition to Zelda II was the RPG elements, like Experience Points, Magic Spells and NPC interaction. On top of that, the core gameplay felt a bit like a traditional adventure platforming game, as Link actually had multiple lives. No other Zelda game had this feature. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link didn't do so well with the critics, as it received an average score of 69% according to Gamerankings, but it did sell 4.4 million copies worldwide. It was also later re-released on the Game Boy Advance.
